Bravest Golf Season Championship 2025
January 14, 2026The golf gods graced us with great weather for both days of our inaugural Sentinel Cup against NYPD. Day 1 was set at Inwood Country Club, and they delivered a phenomenal course for us to play on. Both sides brought 60 competitors to start off the 2 day event. Members from both teams hit the range and practice greens early to warm up for the much anticipated event. Many matches were tight throughout the whole day. We had a lot of great play from both sides with the players eager to help their respective squads go into day 2 with the upper hand. At the end of the day Bravest Golf Team was up 3 points. But in true golf/Ryder Cup fashion, the next day is never a guarantee.
The morale was high along with the temperature for day 2 at the historic Bethpage Black, home of the 2025 Ryder Cup. Here it was up to the top 16 players from each team to bring home the Sentinel Cup. Opening ceremonies brought our wonderful ceremonial units together with a strong rendition of the National Anthem, and opening ceremonial tee shots from our commissioner Robert S. Tucker, and NYPD’s Capt. Conor McDonald, son of NYPD’s Stephen McDonald who tragically passed years prior due to complications from a gunshot wound suffered while on duty.
The crowds and cameras were out with plenty of support from both sides, and lets give them credit as they stuck it out in the heat and followed along through the tough Bethpage Black track, which his always a tough walk. Matches went back and forth throughout the whole day and Bethpage Black certainly showed its teeth to the competitors. Conditions weren’t easy dealing with the sun and heat, as if the pressure of bringing home the Sentinel Cup wasn’t enough. It was truly something else to hear the occasional roar from a few holes over from the supporting crowd. The men battled though it all though and we couldn’t have asked for a better ending with it coming down to the last putt. Unfortunately for Bravest Golf, NYPD’s Finest golf team overcame the 3 point deficit and were the ones to hoist the Sentinel Cup for the first time. As the rest of the teams and spectators surrounded the 18th green anticipating the finish, FDNY’s Sean Modafferi got up and down to save par leaving it in the hands of NYPD’s Kijun Kim. As Kim was on in 2 and Modafferi needing to win the hole, a 3 putt was too much to ask and Kim hit the 4 footer for par halving the whole and ultimately giving NYPD the victory.
It truly was an amazing 2 days for both sides and this is just the beginning of the next FDNY/NYPD’s long tradition of battling it out in different sports on the field, and courts. We would like to give thanks to every involved. To the members that showed up to play, and to those who showed up to help and show support for the other team members. A special thanks goes out to the MGA who was with us for both days helping setup the course, and take care of the scoring. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible. A few people who deserve their recognition are Kevin Kline, Jordyn Lee, Julliana Bravo,Dan Gatta, Addison Burkett, Matt Goula, Jack Berl, Chris Gaffney, Tommy McCormack, and Oliver Willard all from the MGA. They believed in us and helped us deliver. Also Bravest Golf Team President Joe Felder, and Lt. Chris Mescalli who continued working hard while in FLSPS to make sure everything was in line and ready to go. All the board members put in a lot of work for this event for now and for the future of the team. We all appreciate the support from the members and we will continue to work hard to deliver for you guys.Without you, we have nothing! Congrats to the NYPD, we look forward to next years event.
